Description

The mission of the Peninsula College Fund (PCF) is to empower low-income, first-generation college students to graduate and obtain a job that aligns with their career goals. We provide four-year scholarships, one-to-one adult mentors, college and career success training and internship support.

Mentor recruitment happens on a rolling basis. However, mentors and mentees are mainly matched in the spring. While a prospective mentor may interview in the fall or winter and may be approved to participate in PCF's mentoring program, matching will not occur until May/June 2020.

Requirements

PCF accepts rolling applications throughout the year. Please note that if selected, you will be required to attend a Mentor Orientation before you are matched with a student.

Mentor Eligibility
In order to be eligible to mentor with PCF, you must:
• Be a graduate of a four-year college or university 
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience; 5 years preferred (post-graduation)

Mentor Commitments
• Commit to supporting first-generation college students from historically underrepresented communities
• Commit to a mentoring relationship for four years or until graduation, beginning in May/June 2020
• Commit to an average of 2-3 hours monthly to mentoring 
• Be willing to provide your mentee with academic and social/emotional support, and career guidance 
• Submit a monthly update to PCF and be open to receiving constructive feedback from staff
• Attend New Mentor Orientation: June 13, 2020
• Attend PCF Awards Ceremony: June 27, 2020 
• Participate in at least one training (continuing education sessions for mentors) every year
•  Adhere to a strict confidentiality agreement 

Process

Step 1: Complete Mentor Application 
PCF reviews this information to learn more about you and your desire to mentor (and may use this information for matching purposes). You will be asked to submit contact information for 2 references, who will be automatically contacted via email for their submission. As a reminder, all information is kept confidential. *Please note that not all applicants who submit an application will be invited to interview and all reasons for decisions are confidential.

Step 2: Interview 
Candidates selected to advance will be invited to a remote, 1 hour interview. Due to Covid-19 concerns, all interviews will be conducted remotely until further notice. Questions range from mentoring experience to familiarity with mentee backgrounds.*Please note that not all applicants who interview will advance in the process and all reasons for decisions are confidential.

Step 3: Application Review and Background Check 
PCF reviews all application and interview materials. Candidates selected to move on in the process will be contacted via email to begin a background check.

Step 4: Final Status 
Once PCF staff has received background check results, staff informs the candidate of their final status in the application process. Those who are approved to participate in the PCF mentoring program will be deemed "match-eligible" and added to the pool of PCF mentors.  

Step 5: Matching
