Description

The Gary Grossman Scholarship was established to provide scholarship support for promising LGBTQ students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential. The scholarship is open to local high school seniors or college students who reside in San Luis Obispo County or the Santa Maria Basin pursuing higher education at the college or university level.

Gary Grossman is a successful developer living in San Luis Obispo County. Earning a bachelor’s degree in literature from UCLA and his masters of science degree in urban and regional planning and real estate financing at USC. He has been a steady force in the region building over 2,000 homes and more than a dozen commercial projects over the past two decades.

Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

1) Applicant is a current high school senior, or current or potential college student attending California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Cuesta College or Allan Hancock, and;
2) Applicant identifies as LGBTQ, and;
3) Applicant resides on the Central Coast (as defined by CCGALA, all of San Luis Obispo County and the Santa Maria Basin), and;
4) Applicant’s is planning to enroll full-time in college or university in the coming school year and has a current GPA is 2.5 or better, and;
5) Applicant has financial need.

Selection Criteria

a) Demonstration of Academic Achievement, and;
b) Demonstration of leadership potential and service to community, and;
c) Possession of character traits such as ethicality, honesty and integrity, and;
d) Demonstrates strong desire and ability to seek education over other alternatives.

The Gary Grossman Scholarship Committee would like to award multiple scholarships ranging in value from $1,000 to $5,000.
