Description

Scholarship Plus is a college scholarship program founded in 2010 to provide financial assistance and strong undergraduate support for hardworking, low-income New York City high school graduates in the city's five boroughs.

The students we support are not just bright but have already shown great determination in their young lives, distinguishing themselves academically despite both economic and personal obstacles. They are at or near the top of their classes, showing great promise though often graduating from academically weak city schools.

Scholarship Plus provides up to $8,000 a year for tuition, room and board, and other educational expenses. In the belief that financial aid alone is not enough to assure safe passage through college, even for the strongest students, the program provides more than money. The "Plus" includes a paid internship the summer after high school and, from that time on, academic counseling, summer job support, internships and career advice, mentoring of various sorts and personal guidance when needed.

Requirements

Applicants must be current high school seniors graduating in June 2020. They attend public, parochial or private schools in New York City and have demonstrated:

  • Outstanding academic achievement (GPA of 85% or higher)
  • Significant financial need
  • Success in overcoming adversity
  • A commitment to community service
  • Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States
  • Preference will be given to students whose parents have not graduated from American four-year colleges or universities
