Description

Youth Philanthropy Council Grant (2020)

PROGRAM NAME: The Community Foundation established its Youth Philanthropy Council (YPC) in 2008 in an effort to provide opportunities for local youth to gain leadership, consensus building, philanthropic, and decision-making skills, while making a difference for their peers in their communities.

Currently, the YPC is comprised of 24 sophomores, juniors, and seniors from ten local public and private high schools in the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro, and Augusta County. The objectives of YPC are to promote youth development and community leadership through experiences of philanthropy, support local youth initiatives, and engage youth and adults in partnership through giving and serving our communities.

The Youth Philanthropy Council believes that youth in our area have the right to lead healthy lives. To do so, they recognize:
  • The importance of addressing mental health issues among youth, particularly for those who have been victims of trauma.
  • That building relationships and making connections significantly contributes to addressing trauma and mental health concerns.
FUNDING PRIORITY: The YPC announces the availability of at least $25,000 in grant funding and invites nonprofit organizations to submit an application addressing the following priority.

  • Programs and services that provide access to consistent counseling and mentorship to at-risk-youth and young victims of trauma.
