The main goal of the NIH/UCLA mHealth Training Institute is to develop the next-generation of academic mHealth investigators with the multidisciplinary skills needed to generate high-quality mHealth solutions for optimizing healthcare. These skills include working in interdisciplinary teams that value inputs from both the health sector and technology worlds. By intent, the facilitated interactions and collaborations between participants from different disciplines seek to foster the unified insights and nimbleness of thought that will take mHealth ideas and approaches to the next level. Participants with leave the Institute with a broad-based exposure to the latest advances in mHealth methodologies and experience in creating impactful. transdisciplinary mHealth solutions.

Requirements

Who can apply?

To be eligible, applicants need to:

• Hold a doctoral level degree (PhD, ScD, MD, DDS, DVM, etc.), in any of the following:

  • Behavioral and Social sciences
  • Health Sciences Specialties (Medical, Dental, Nursing, Optometry, etc)
  • Biological, Physical or Earth sciences
  • Computational Sciences and Mathematics
  • Engineering

• Priority is given to academia-based applicants (junior, mid-level and senior faculty) who plan to use the training to advance their mHealth scholarship and develop impactful solutions.

• US-based applicants are NOT required to be citizens, permanent residents, or non-citizen nationals of the United States. Those selected will receive full scholarships (see below).

• Non-US based applicants are encouraged to apply. Those selected will receive partial scholarships (see below).

• All accepted applicants are contractually bound to attend all days of the institute, participate in the team projects and development of the team research proposal, and complete all course evaluations.

Note that the week-long mHTI is a fully-immersive, residential institute that requires the selected scholars to engage fully in all didactic, team and evaluative activities. Please be aware of the commitment as you apply!

Although the mHTI focuses primarily on developing academic mHealth researchers, applicants from non-traditional settings with academic interactions will also be considered.
