HISTORYDr. Donald Ray Schimnoski was born on January 9, 1921, and was affectionately known as “Dr. Don.” He spent 58 years serving in family practice in Three Rivers, fulfilling his calling in life to help others through his compassion, humility, and kindness.
Dr. Don graduated from Northfield High school in Minnesota where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. After high school, he attended Carleton College enrolling in their pre-med program, and playing star forward on the varsity basketball program and shortstop on the baseball team. After graduating from Carleton and the University of Minnesota Medical School, Dr. Don served two years in the Navy before being honorably discharged. He went on to work for several years at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and post Montgomery Hospital in Battle Creek. Dr. Don and his wife Gloria and their family moved to Three Rivers in 1957 where he joined the staff at Three Rivers Medical Clinic and Three Rivers Hospital.
Dr. Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and was always there for his family.
PURPOSETo provide financial assistance to graduates of Three Rivers High School wishing to attend a school of higher education to pursue a career in healthcare.
AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP
The scholarship shall be in the amount of $500
Requirements
ELIGIBILITYApplicants for this scholarship must satisfy the following criteria:
- Residents from the Three Rivers area
- Minimum 2.75 G.P.A. in high school.
- Continuing education in the field of healthcare
- Be available for a personal interview with the scholarship selection committee, if needed
Complete the required information. All information submitted will be kept in the strictest confidence.
- Scholarship Applications must be submitted by March 1st for consideration.
- Provide one (1) letter of recommendation from a business or professional person.
- Include a copy of your school transcripts.
