Description

The Vineyard and Farm Worker’s Scholarship was established by Brian and Johnine Talley and supports higher education for the children of vineyard and farm workers.

Requirements

Eligibility Criteria:
a) Applicant’s parent is a vineyard or farm worker either living or working in San Luis Obispo County;
b) Preference is for the children of parents who are field workers tending the vines and crops;
c) Applicant is currently a senior at a high school in San Luis Obispo County or the Santa Maria basin with the desire to pursue a post-secondary education ; and,
d) Applicant is a U.S. citizen, dreamer (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival-DACA), or eligible non-citizen as determined by the Federal Student Aid;
e) Applicant has a cumulative unweighted grade point average of 2.8 or higher on a 4.0 scale; and,
f) Applicant has demonstrated financial need.


Selection Criteria:
a) Applicant exhibits a strong academic record; and,
b) Applicant demonstrates involvement in school, community and/or work activities throughout their high school years; and,
c) Selection preference will be for students accepted to and planning to attend California Polytechnic State University- SLO, but recipient may select school of choice.


Award Amount:
The scholarship awards shall be a two or four-year commitment so long as the recipient is enrolled full-time and making adequate progress towards a degree and maintains at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Total award value will be dependent on recipient’s post-secondary institution
• Four-year college or university – award will be a minimum of $10,000 over four years ($2,500/year)
• Community college or technical school – award will be a minimum of $4,000 over two years ($1,500 in year 1 and $2,500 in year 2)
