NOTE: This scholarship application is for students attending public high schools in Lane County, Oregon ONLY. The statewide application for students in the class of 2022 will be posted in May 2021.***
Stand for Children is a non-profit education advocacy organization focused on ensuring all students receive a high-quality and relevant education - especially those whose potential is overlooked because of their skin color, zip code, first language, or disability.
The Beat the Odds Scholarship program was started in 2007 to emphasize the critical role that education plays in helping students meet challenges and land on a path to success. The program is a partnership between Stand for Children Oregon and the Renaissance Foundation.
The Beat the Odds Scholarship is a $4,000 renewable award for Lane County high school seniors who are overcoming adversity and succeeding in school.
Up to four $4,000 renewable scholarships will be awarded to students who attend public schools in Lane County in February 2021.
Requirements
Qualified candidates will be able to demonstrate that they:• Attend a public high school in Lane County Oregon.
• Are on track to graduate in spring/summer 2021.
• Have maintained a 3.0 or higher grade point average showing marked effort, improvement, or success.
• Have succeeded in spite of hardships such as poverty, disability, homelessness, systemic inequalities, personal tragedy, or similar.
• Have participated in activities that are helpful to others.
• Have a demonstrated financial need.
Scholarship awards are contingent on acceptance into an accredited 2 or 4-year college program for the 2021-2022 academic year. The scholarship will be paid directly to the college. The award is renewable for up to four years ($16,000 total) provided the recipient maintains a 3.0 GPA or better, completes 12 or more credits each term, and funding is available.
The Beat the Odds Scholarship is not for everybody. Recipients will share their story at the Beat the Odds award ceremony, participate in the creation of an inspirational video, and participate in related publicity.
