LAMVCF and Appetite for Good’s Food Resiliency Program supports Mountain View-based restaurants, who have been impacted by the pandemic and who wish to implement solutions in their businesses that will help with long-term resiliency, making future uncertainties less impactful.

This program is modeled after Appetite for Good’s flagship program, which supports restaurants by enabling donors to buy restaurant gift certificates that are then distributed to those facing food insecurity by our nonprofit partners. Restaurants receive an upfront cash flow boost to help support their businesses.

The program has enabled thousands of meals to be served to date and provided a much-needed cash infusion to our restaurants.

“What Appetite for Good is doing is amazing!  It helped people that needed food to eat, and it helped me keep my dream of owning a restaurant alive!” Restaurant in Downtown Mountain View

For this program, restaurants are expected to provide gift certificates in return for the total amount received, upon receipt of funds. We will work with restaurants on gift certificate language, and can help prepare certificates if needed.

These gift certificates, with an estimated value of $10-$20 per certificate (depending on restaurant), will come back to the restaurant in a period of 1-6+ months after the funds are given; redemption rates are approximately that of regular gift certificates. Restaurants receive the entire value of their funds upfront, gaining a helpful cash flow boost.

Gift certificates will ultimately be distributed to those in need by our long-standing nonprofit partner, Community Services Agency.

Requirements

Restaurants must agree to participate in providing gift certificates that will be distributed through our nonprofit partner, Community Services Agency, and must agree to accept all gift certificates that are redeemed, with no expiration date.

Additional requirements:

  • Must have at least one location in the city of Mountain View (preference is given to Mountain View-based businesses)
  • We are particularly interested in supporting businesses owned and/or managed by women and/or BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color).
  • Locally owned franchised restaurants are allowed, but not chains headquarted outside the greater Bay Area (preference is given to independent, small businesses)
  • Menu must have some healthy, diverse food choices and support a strong food ecosystem (such as vegetarian, gluten-free, carb-reduced, organic ingredients, local suppliers, etc.)
  • For this program, restaurants are expected to provide gift certificates in the amount of 100% of their total dollars received. Restaurants must agree to provide and accept redeemed gift certificates, which will be distributed through Community Services Agency

Amounts & Requirements:

  • Amount of funds per restaurant will typically be in the range of $2,500 to $10,000. Funds will be announced on or around November 5, 2021.
  • Recipients will be required to briefly report back on some basic metrics 3 months after receiving their grant. Reports will be informal and not require excess paperwork. We will ask for approximate percentage of gift certificates received back, along with any subjective observations you wish to share. We anticpate this will take 5 minutes of your time.
