SHPE and Medtronic have partnered together to provide the opportunity for interns to participate in the SHPE Medtronic College Fund Partnership for Summer 2022.

These full-time (40 hours/week), paid positions are 11-12 weeks in length. Medtronic will offer housing assistance (for out of state interns), relocation expense reimbursement, and educational and social events throughout the summer. The summer internship opportunities are available across the U.S; including Minnesota, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Arizona, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Florida. Salary minimum: $24.25 per hour; Salary maximum: $28 per hour. 

A Day in the Life at Medtronic

Under the direction of a more experienced engineer, you will prepare plans for your own work, participate in technical reviews, implement advances in current state-of-the-art technology and identify opportunities for productivity and quality improvement.  You may test for product integration and verification, conducting those tests based on design specifications, and will prepare formal documentation.

You will work in partnership with engineering teams to use state-of-the-art engineering tools and methods to design/develop products to be used by physicians including pacemakers, and implantable defibrillators, neuro-stimulators, drug pumps and other implantable medical devices. Other positions may work with surgical tools, diabetes pumps, design product components, circuitry, or hardware from detailed concept descriptions.

Requirements

Must Have

To be considered for a summer 2022 engineering internship, you must meet the following basic requirements. You must clearly indicate on your resume how you meet these criteria to be considered for a position.

  • Bachelor’s degree student with a sophomore or junior level class standing
  • Working towards a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related engineering major
  • A minimum 3.0 out of a 4.0 cumulative GPA
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis and does not require sponsorship in the future for an employment visa
  • Participants must be able to participate full time (40 hours/week) as part of our intern cohort from Monday, June 6 - Friday, August 19

Nice to Have

  • Prior work on projects in a team environment is preferred
  • Relevant academic projects, internship, or lab experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following is preferred: IC design, signal processing, Labview, MATLAB, basic electrical engineering concepts of design, sensor technologies, schematics, RF.
  • BioMed knowledge a plus but not required.
