Scholarships for Scholars Performing Arts--Music/Theater/Dance/Production 2021-2022

Description

Scholarships for Scholars will award scholarships in 20 categories this year.  The award may be used for tuition, books, technical equipment, room, and/or meals at the institution of higher education of the recipient's choice.

Students may submit separate applications in up to two distinct categories. Students cannot be awarded more than one scholarship.

Honorary scholarships in the amounts of $9,000, $8,000 and $7,000 are also awarded. Students who submit an application will be eligible for automatic consideration for an honorary scholarship; students do not apply for the honorary scholarships.

Scholarships for Scholars reserves the right to not award a scholarship in any particular category.

Scholarships are awarded without regard to financial need, race, gender, age, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or familial status.

Requirements

  • Graduating high school student residing in Anne Arundel County.
  • Attend a public or accredited private school in Anne Arundel County or a home-schooled program registered with the AACPS Board of Education.
  • Minimum weighted GPA of 3.5.
  • Will attend an accredited college or university as a full time student.
  • Demonstrate excellence in music, theater, musical theater, technical theater, and/or dance performance by participating in instrumental and/or choral ensembles, coursework, theater performance and/or production, dance team, etc.
  • Performance applicants: Provide a 3-5 minute video of a performance that highlights your individual talent.  You have the option to mark the video as "unlisted" on YouTube.
  • Technical theater applicants: Provide a portfolio (design and/or producation build) and video sample(s) of productions.  Upload the video to YouTube and provide the URL to your video in your application. You have the option to mark the video as “unlisted” on YouTube.
  • Call-Backs: Applicants selected by the jury will be required to present a 3-5 minute audition and a 5 minute interview with the reviewers on March 12, 2022 at the Chesapeake Arts Center’s Studio 194. Students will be notified of their audition time if selected for an audition.
    • Performance applicants selected by the reviewers for Call-Backs will be required to present their audition from the application, a past performance, a revision, or a new performance. 
    • Technical theater and/or production applicants selected by the reviewers for Call-Backs will be required to share a portfolio of past and/or proposed design plans, programs, photos, design schematics, lighting, sound or video plots, awards, etc.
