Description

Since 1985, Young Leaders Council (YLC) has trained more than 2,700 professionals to participate on the boards of nonprofit agencies. More than 175 graduates enter the nonprofit community each year from five YLC classes, including two in Davidson County and three in partnership with the Junior League of Nashville, Williamson, Inc. (Chamber), and Massey Graduate School of Business at Belmont University. To learn more about YLC, please visit www.youngleaderscouncil.org.

Requirements

The Criteria

  1. Must be a Junior League Nashville Member
  2. Applicant lives and/or works in Davidson County
  3. Interested in community service and nonprofit work
  4. Committed to attending all the training classes
  5. Eager to participate in a one-year internship on the board of a nonprofit organization
  6. Secured the approval of your manager to miss work for class sessions
  7. Have the ability to pay the class participation fee, or have your company approval to pay, the week prior to class begins 

Program Requirements:

  1. The Young Leaders Council strives to maintain a strong cross-section of individuals, backgrounds, occupations, and experiences in order to enhance the program.
  2. Preference will be given to those individuals who have volunteer experience and have demonstrated a commitment to community service.
  3. If an application is selected, the applicant will be asked to schedule a visit with the Executive Director or Program Manager. After the interview, the applicant will be notified if they have been selected to participate in the program.
  4. The applicant must submit a brief letter of recommendation from their immediate supervisor after they are admitted to the program. 
  5. If accepted, the participant is responsible for the program fee, which is non-refundable. Applicants are encouraged to ask their employer to sponsor the class fee because many companies do.
  6. The participant's attendance is required at all 11 training sessions. Only one absence is allowed.
  7. The participant must commit to and complete a one-year internship on the board of a nonprofit agency.
  8. Should the participant need to withdraw from the program because of an emergency, the applicant will be permitted only one other opportunity to participate in the program. Fees are not transferable between participants or classes.
