Description
The Douglas DeGross Scholarship for Automotive Studies provides support to graduating high school seniors in San Luis Obispo County or Cuesta College students who are pursuing a career in the automotive industry. The applicant must be committed to pursuing a post-secondary education specializing in automotive studies at an approved community college, four-year college/university or vocational school.The Douglas DeGross Scholarship for Automotive Studies was established in memory of the diligence and success of Douglas DeGross. Doug had over thirty years of experience in automotive/truck engineering, operations, sales & marketing, and senior management.
Requirements
Eligibility Criteria:a) Applicant is currently a senior at a comprehensive San Luis Obispo County high school; continuation high school; or a home-schooled program or enrolled at Cuesta College.
b) Applicant is a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen**
c) Applicant is planning to pursue a post-secondary education specializing in automotive studies at an approved community college, four-year college/university or vocational school.
**To be considered an eligible non-citizen, the student should have an eight or nine-digit identification number known as an ARN.
Selection Criteria:
a) Description of an appreciation for automobile studies through one of three forms of media.
i) Essay
ii) Video
iii) PowerPoint presentation
b) Demonstration of academic achievement;
c) Demonstration of financial need;
d) Submission of a letter of recommendation speaking to applicant's passion for automotive studies.
The scholarship amount will be $2,000/year. Option to be annually renewed if eligibility is maintained and fund balance permits.
