2023 Colibrí MX Scholarship

PROGRAM DEADLINE: July 12, 2023 at 11:59 PM PDT (Midnight) - CLOSED

This program is inactive or past the deadline.

Description

In 2019, the Consulate General of Mexico in San Diego, in partnership with MAAC, launched the Colibrí MX Scholarship. This program aims to promote access to higher education for immigrant students of Mexican or Latinx descent residing in San Diego County.

The program offers $1,000 USD scholarships to eligible students enrolling in the Fall 2023 cycle. Students who are also eligible for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, are undocumented, or have an irregular migration status, may apply for an additional $500 USD scholarship. In addition, a $5,000 needs-based scholarship will be awarded to one student. Our goal is to provide Mexican or Latinx students with the resources and support needed to start their journey toward a college degree.

The colibrí, or hummingbird, transcends borders as it makes its annual migration from the United States to Mexico. It symbolizes hope, perseverance, and personal strength — the same principles that our immigrant families exemplify as they seek greater economic mobility in the United States.

We aim for Colibrí MX to become a catalyst for social networks to support our future Mexican and Latinx Leaders and build healthier and vibrant communities here in San Diego and across the US.
