Description

The Justice and Local Church Ministries of the United Church of Christ has created a unified application for four of our support programs: CASA, Operational Support, Neighbor in Need, and Pension Board New Church Benefits. This streamlined process aims to simplify applications and honor the unique priorities of each fund.

Here's what you can expect:

  • You can use this application to apply to all programs for which you qualify.
  • Each program's description, eligibility criteria, and intended use are detailed below.
  • Deadlines are critical - applications submitted after the deadline of September 15, 2023 will not be considered for funding.

IMPORTANT: Start with the reference section as soon as you begin your application. Timely feedback from your reference is crucial. Remember, it's your responsibility to communicate with your reference directly.

Requirements

Here are the funding programs available and their focus areas:

  1. Operational Financial Support Grant: This grant offers financial aid to local churches in crisis, assisting with operational costs like staffing, equipment, and utilities. It's not for long-term support but for immediate operational impacts. Average grants are around $2,500, but the final amount depends on available funding.

 

  1. Neighbors in Need (NIN) Fund: The NIN Fund is seed funding for congregations and organizations addressing systemic injustice at various levels. Funding is for program development centered around outreach and justice advocacy. The areas are:
A. Advocacy and Outreach for Justice Work (grants average          between $2,500- $5,000)

B. Innovative Programs for Justice Work (grants average between $7,500- $10,000)

 

  1. New Church Planters Health, Dental, and Pension Benefit Support: This grant helps new, sustainable churches cover health, dental, and pension costs. It's given over three years with decreasing amounts each year ($10,000, $8,000, and $6,000). The church must be no older than ten years and meet certain criteria. If recommended, you must complete further steps before receiving the grant.

 

  1. CASA New and Rebirthing Church Grants: These grants assist faith communities affiliated with the United Church of Christ, aiming to achieve sustainability through coaching and financial support. It's awarded based on the community impact aligning with UCC's vision and mission. If awarded, we hope to support with continued funding over four years, provided you apply each year. For the first and second years, you can anticipate awards of $15,000 with no matching funds required. In the third and fourth years, you may be eligible for $25,000 each year, but these funds need to be matched. This is our commitment to help your project thrive and achieve long-term sustainability. This grant has three focus areas:

A. New Communities Seeking Coaching and Financial Support
B. Rebirthing Communities Seeking Coaching and Financial Support
C. Current CASA Grant Recipients Seeking Continued Funding
