Description

The Angela Guarini Hollander Scholarship was established to honor her work and dedication providing scholarship opportunities for students throughout San Luis Obispo County, and to honor her servant leadership and dedication to donor intent.

Angela Guarini Hollander was raised in a strong nuclear Italian American family composed of first- and second-generation individuals, many of whom immigrated through Ellis Island, including her maternal grandfather and later, her father. Her maternal grandparents owned a Mom-and-Pop grocery store in New Jersey. Angela's mother, Estelle Romano Guarini, was first in her family to graduate from high school and college, earning a B.S. in Business Administration. It was Estelle who convinced her family to join a cooperative of independent supermarkets. Angela worked her way through college at one of the family's RONETCO Shop-Rite supermarkets, experiencing every department in the store.

After graduating from college, Angela worked as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse for 22 years. She was a staff nurse, a charge nurse and eventually a Nurse Manager. She earned her master's degree in Public and Private Management, aspiring to healthcare Administration. However, upon moving to the Central Coast of California, a newfound passion in education led her to a position as a First 5 School Readiness Coordinator. It was her collaboration with the Community Foundation establishing the county's first Raising a Reader program in Paso Robles, that led to a job at the Foundation. She found her new passion involving both children and education: scholarships.
