The Jennifer Thoma Memorial Ballet Scholarship was established to help local dancers realize their own dreams. The scholarship will provide support for dancers to attend summer intensive ballet training programs.

Jennifer Thoma was admired and beloved by many, and possessed wonderful personal qualities such as courage, reliability, honesty, patience, kindness, a sense of humor, intellect, humility, and a strong sense of responsibility. This Scholarship is in honor of Jennifer!

Submission of the Jennifer Thoma Ballet Scholarship Application includes:

1. An essay of no longer than 250 words, responding to the following: 
  • Choose two of Jennifer's qualities (above) that could describe you, tell us how those qualities help you as a dancer and what aspects of dance you are most passionate about.
2. A letter of recommendation from a dance instructor or mentor 
  • This letter should speak to the aptitude of the applicant and potential to pursue intensive ballet study.
3. School Transcript
  • School transcript or letter from school registrar attesting to enrollment in school and that the applicant has met the minimum 2.5 GPA. - If homeschooled, then the name and contact information of the affiliated program must be provided.
4. Submission of a 4-5-minute dance video demonstrating ballet aptitude:
  1. Female dancers will perform in ballet audition attire: black leotard, pink tights and slippers and/or pointe shoes (no skirt).
  2. Male dancers should wear a white t-shirt and black tights.
  3. Preference for non-professional video, un-edited except between combinations. The dancer should occupy no less than one-third of the frame throughout the film. The camera should remain stationary. Ideally the video is shot from the front center of the stage area. From the list below, the dancer should end each combination on stage instead of off-camera.
  4. Recording should include the following ballet combinations showcasing current skill level as well as performance qualities including musicality, presentation, and artistry.
  • Adagio – demonstrating control, extension and line
  • A waltz pirouette – demonstrating phrasing and movement quality
  • A petite allegro – demonstrating clarity of footwork
  • A grand allegro – demonstrating the ability to move through space
  • 30 seconds of a contemporary and/or partnering example
  • For ladies on pointe, one pointe combination
  • For men, one male jump combination
  • Video submissions should be uploaded to a personal YouTube page or Dropbox account
