2024 Amber Goheen-Harlan Memorial Scholarship

PROGRAM DEADLINE: April 30, 2024 at 11:59 PM PDT (Midnight)

Description

The Amber Goheen-Harlan Scholarship Fund was created to memorialize Amber's life and her love of athletics, especially tennis. Amber began her tennis career at the age of eight. She was fortunate to have the benefit of several outstanding teaching professionals during her lifetime. Her beautiful strokes, sportsmanship and love of the game came from Jumbo Fernando. Joanne Kraft & Suzy Hunt-Moran gave her inspiration & tough workouts. Brian Parott taught her how to serve and Gunders Tilmanis taught her fitness & strategy. University of Oregon Coach Tom Greider taught her how to win.

As a young player traveling from tournament to tournament throughout the Pacific Northwest, Amber met & made many life long friends. As a player at the University of Oregon, Amber was named Most Improved, Most Inspirational, Most Valuable, Team Co-Captain, "All PAC Ten" and received the Ron Lee Scholarship Athletic Award.

As a teaching professional, Coach at Mountain View High School and Prairie High School, Amber helped many tennis players, both young and old, improve their game and the pure enjoyment of tennis. Amber's life was cut short at the age of 27 when she succumbed to cancer after the toughest match of her life, which she lost in the finals after a nine month battle.

She is remembered by many as the vibrant, fine person she was & who even now is still helping others, who benefit from this scholarship. Amber was a joy to be around & a fine friend. She is gone now, but she will never be forgotten by those who knew her.
